Year 5 B - Miss Pennell 2024 - 2025
Welcome to Year 5
Our names are Mrs Cronshaw, Miss Latta and Miss Pennell. Learning in Year 5 is supported by Miss Colman.
During the year, we will be looking at a range of topics in our class.
In Maths, we are looking at place value and the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
During Literacy, we will be a writing a range of narratives based on the book 'The Good Bear' by Sarah Lean.
In Reading, we will be exploring 'The Good Bear' in further detail, as well as a text on Anglo-Saxons and some poetry.
In the afternoons, we will look at a wide variety of topics, such as Earth and Space in Science, our ever-changing nation in Geography and the Anglo-Saxons in History.
Art
Children receive weekly Art sessions led by Mrs Walsh.
PE
Our PE days are Wednesdays and Fridays. Please make sure that your child has a named kit, which includes black pumps or trainers, black shorts and a green t-shirt. Long hair needs to be tied back.
All earrings need to be removed before school or the lesson for PE sessions. Where ears have recently been pierced, it is essential that children have their own plasters from home to cover their earrings. This needs to be done either at home or by the child themselves. This is in line with the school policy.
Attendance
Excellent attendance is vital for helping your child to achieve their full potential. Please ensure your child is in school promptly at 8.40.
School finishes at 3.15 and children continue to be collected from classrooms at this time.
Home learning
Spellings will be given out every Friday to be practiced at home for a spelling test the following Friday. Parents are encouraged to read with their children every day to support progress in reading and to help nurture a love for reading.
There will be weekly TT Rockstar battles against the other year 5 class, please ensure your child takes part as timetables are a vital part of your child’s education.
