SEND

My name is Karen Cutts and I am the school's SENDCo.

It is my role to ensure the children on the Special Educational Needs register are achieving to the best of their ability. Special Educational Needs is a legal term describing the needs of a child who has a difficulty or disability which makes learning harder for them than other children their age.

At Wistaston Academy there is a wide range of strategies and resources that the staff can use to include children with Special Educational Needs. These include provision for pupils with emotional, social and behavioural needs as well as academic. Nurturing is embedded throughout the school curriculum and where required, some pupils with high levels of need may follow a more personalised curriculum based on individual need. We will work with you, the class teacher and your child to ensure their needs are met. Sometimes we will approach outside agencies for further support.

For further information about SENs, you may wish to go the Cheshire East Livewell site:

https://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/livewell/local-offer-for-children-with-sen-and-disabilities/local-offer-for-children-with-sen-and-disabilities.aspx

Wistaston Academy always works closely with parents and, when needed, other outside agencies to support our children and ensure their needs are met. If your child has an EHCP, our 0 - 25 Keyworker from the Local Authority is Sarah Marsden. If you have any queries or concerns about your child’s progress or special educational needs I am happy to speak with you; the door is always open! You can contact me via email- [email protected] or by speaking to the class teacher. Please note that I work Monday - Wednesday.

I am here to help support you and your children.
